The Problem

Video Alfa had exceptional work but was showing it through a generic template that compressed images, added distracting UI chrome, and buried the booking call-to-action. Potential clients arrived, saw work that didn't reflect the actual quality of the photography, and left without making contact.

My Role

3 weeks

Client (image selection and copy)

  • Designed the full site in Figma with a focus on visual impact and minimalism
  • Built in React with Tailwind CSS — no unnecessary dependencies that add load time
  • Implemented a masonry gallery with lightbox that preserves image quality and aspect ratio
  • Wrote smooth page transitions and scroll animations that complement the photography
  • Structured the testimonials section to build trust before the booking CTA
  • Optimized all images for web delivery without visible quality loss
Process
01

Visual Direction

Reviewed the photographer's full portfolio and identified their distinctive style — high contrast, muted tones, deliberate composition. The site design amplifies those qualities rather than competing with them.

02

Design

Built a dark, minimal interface that puts photographs center stage. Typography is understated so it never fights the images for attention. Every interaction — hover, scroll, transition — reinforces the premium quality of the work.

03

Development

Focused on image loading performance as the primary engineering constraint. Images load progressively, above-the-fold content is prioritized, and the masonry layout reflows without cumulative layout shift.

Visuals
The hero section uses a full-viewport image with a minimal overlay — the first thing a visitor sees is the photographer's best work, not branding.

The masonry gallery preserves each image's natural aspect ratio — no cropping that hides the composition the photographer intended.

The booking section follows the testimonials — social proof first, then the ask. Conversion order matters.

The Result

Booking inquiries increased 3× in the first 8 weeks after launch, and the client reported that clients frequently mention the website as the reason they got in touch.

I've had a website before, but this is the first one where clients tell me it looks like my actual work. Robertino understood what I was going for without me having to explain it twice.
